Senator Ted Kennedy, 1932-2009
Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy lived his entire life in the public eye, the youngest son of a wealthy U.S. businessman and ambassador, and the younger brother of both a U.S. Senator and a President. His personal and family life was riddled with difficulty and tragedy, some self-inflicted, some undeserved. First elected in 1962, he spent 47 years in the U.S. Congress, representing the state of Massachusetts, over time gaining power and respect from both sides of the aisle, earning the name "Lion of the Senate". Kennedy passed away on August 25th, 2009, at the age of 77. He was remembered this weekend by family, friends, colleagues, presidents and thousands of citizens of Massachusetts and beyond.
