The Fashionable Fetus
"Fetus Made of Condoms" by Paul Balancio
A few years back, I was invited to a baby shower at which the mother-to-be was presented with a fetus cake wearing a tiny pink bow (that looked a little something like this.) While my face was plastered with a look of horror, the mother was glowing with genuine appreciation, ready to accept the first slice of layer cake complete with skin colored frosting and raspberry filling. It became apparent to me that the fetus, a provocative figure that evokes a myriad of emotions, can also bring warm fuzzies to those carrying them in their bellies. And before you even think about turning this into a pro-choice vs. pro-life debate, the purpose of this post is not political. Humans, it would seem, have different reasons to create, eat, and/or wear fetus-inspired designs. (Okay, well maybe except for the fetus ashtray. Flicking ashes on the unborn is just a little creepy.) Enjoy!
